Hyderabad Launches Indiramma Canteens With ₹5 Breakfasts

GHMC is subsidising each plate to keep prices at ₹5.

Overview

  • Transport and Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi inaugurated the programme at Mothinagar and Mint Compound.
  • Officials said 60 canteens opened simultaneously today; a GHMC release also states 150 are operating citywide, serving over 30,000 daily.
  • Each breakfast carries a ₹14 subsidy and each meal ₹24.83, with GHMC estimating savings of about ₹3,000 a month for regular users.
  • The canteens, run in collaboration with the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation, serve breakfast and hot afternoon meals at ₹5.
  • Women and self-help groups will be prioritised to operate units, as GHMC rebrands and expands the earlier Annapurna ₹5 meal centres launched in 2014.
