Hyderabad Industrialist Stabbed to Death by Grandson Over Property Dispute

Velamati Chandrasekhar Janardhan Rao, 86, was fatally attacked by his US-educated grandson following a heated argument about inheritance.

Velamati Chandrasekhar Janardhan Rao, founder of Veljan Group, was stabbed 73 times by his grandson Keerthi Teja at his Hyderabad residence on February 6, 2025.
The attack followed a dispute over property distribution, with Teja accusing his grandfather of unfair treatment and indifference since childhood.
Teja also injured his mother, Sarojini Devi, who sustained stab wounds while attempting to intervene; she is currently receiving treatment.
Police arrested Teja on February 8 after a manhunt; he had recently returned to India after completing a master’s degree in the United States.
Rao was a prominent industrialist and philanthropist known for his contributions to healthcare and religious institutions in Andhra Pradesh.
