Hyderabad Identifies 49 Foreign Overstayers; 12 Deported

Police began deportation and removal procedures after a sweep that uncovered alleged drug, fraud and prostitution links.

Overview

  • The operation, launched on August 31 by the Special Branch’s Foreigners Monitoring Cell with the FRRO and local police, identified 49 foreign nationals for overstaying or other visa breaches.
  • Twelve of the 49 have already been deported and the remaining people are lodged in designated holding centres while formal removal processes continue.
  • Police reported alleged offences uncovered during verification, including seizure of 250 grams of ganja, positive cannabis tests for three South Sudanese nationals, counterfeit-related fraud, prostitution links and possession of Alprazolam mixed with cough syrup.
  • Most cases were concentrated in Tolichowki with smaller numbers in Langar House, Mehdipatnam, Rajendranagar, Banjara Hills and Gudimalkapur, which shaped the focus of local checks by the Hyderabad IT Cell and area police.
  • FRRO and police action will involve coordination with foreign missions and landlords for document checks, and authorities said foreigners with valid passports and visas may remain if they comply with visa conditions.
