Hyderabad Cybercrime Unit Dismantles Interstate Film Piracy Network, 5 Arrested

Investigators now trace overseas infrastructure linked to crypto financing.

Overview

  • Five suspects were arrested and notices were issued to five aides after TFCC’s anti-video piracy cell flagged day-one leaks of ‘#Single’ and ‘HIT: The Third Case’ in June.
  • Police said the racket sourced films via in-theatre cam-recordings and hacks of digital distribution systems to obtain HD copies.
  • The network allegedly used encrypted Telegram channels, foreign virtual servers and cryptocurrency, with traffic promoted by online gaming and betting sponsors.
  • Raids yielded laptops, hard drives, phones and other devices, and cases were filed under the IT Act, Copyright Act and the Cinematograph Act.
  • Officials briefed leading Telugu industry figures on safeguards as the probe, supported by I4C, continues to target remaining infrastructure and actors across multiple film industries.
