Hyderabad, Cyberabad Book Nearly 1,000 Motorists in Weekend Drunk-Driving Crackdowns

Police pledge continued zero tolerance through surprise checks, with potential charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

  • Hyderabad Traffic Police reported 552 bookings during Nov. 28–29 citywide checks targeting late-night driving under the influence.
  • Cyberabad’s parallel drive booked 431 motorists, with Chevella, Shamshabad and Rajendranagar recording the highest counts.
  • Two-wheelers dominated the violations, and most offenders were 21–40 years old, including 181 cases in the 21–30 bracket and 150 in 31–40.
  • Breathalyser data showed mostly low to moderate BACs in both drives, with Hyderabad logging 10 readings over 300 mg and Cyberabad finding 11 in the 301–550 mg range.
  • In Cyberabad, all offenders will be produced in court, and in the prior week courts disposed 320 drunk-driving cases with fines, social service or imprisonment.
