Overview

  • On July 8–9 the Huthi militia attacked the Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned ship using drones and a speedboat, causing the Eternity C to sink in the Red Sea.
  • The EU military mission Eunavfor Aspides has rescued ten of the 25 crew members and continues search operations for the remaining twelve.
  • At least three sailors were killed and two others wounded during the attack, according to Aspides and the Associated Press.
  • Huthi spokespeople have claimed responsibility, stating they used an unmanned boat, cruise missiles and ballistic rockets against the freighter.
  • Earlier on July 6 the militia sank another cargo vessel, Magic Seas, in a campaign they say expresses solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and threatens a vital maritime trade corridor.
