Hurricane Priscilla Strengthens to Category 2 Off Mexico’s Pacific Coast

Civil protection steps up precautions across coastal states as dangerous surf, strong winds and flooding rains spread far from the storm’s center.

Overview

  • Mexico’s weather service reports Priscilla about 370–410 km south of Cabo San Lucas with sustained winds near 155 km/h, gusts to 195 km/h, moving northwest at roughly 15–17 km/h.
  • Tropical-storm watches and coastal alerts remain in effect, with classes suspended in La Paz and Los Cabos and ports in Los Cabos closed to all navigation.
  • Wave heights are forecast near 5–6 meters along Baja California Sur, 3–4 meters in Nayarit and Jalisco, and 2–3 meters in Sinaloa, Colima and Michoacán.
  • Heavy rain is expected across Baja California Sur, Sinaloa and Nayarit, with additional downpours extending into central, southern and southeastern states due to other atmospheric disturbances.
  • Forecast guidance indicates possible modest strengthening over the next day followed by weakening to Category 1 and then to a tropical or post‑tropical system by midweek while hazardous marine and rainfall conditions persist.
