Hurricane-Like Gusts Lash Southwest Germany, Causing Injuries and Disruption

Two people suffered serious injuries in Dachsberg when a falling tree struck a minibus.

  • Integrated control centers reported gale- to hurricane-force gusts that triggered numerous police, fire and rescue deployments across Baden-Württemberg.
  • The hardest-hit areas included the Hochrhein, Upper Rhine and Black Forest, where many trees were uprooted and temporary road closures were required.
  • Several land and district roads were shut for short periods but were reopened in many cases after debris clearance, with overall property damage described as limited so far.
  • In Dachsberg, the 58-year-old minibus driver sustained very serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, and a 57-year-old passenger was taken by ambulance with serious injuries.
  • In Mülheim, a roughly ten-meter tree blocked Aktienstraße and slowed streetcars until firefighters cleared it in about 45 minutes, and a DWD level-2 warning remained in effect until 20:00.
