Overview

  • Flossie is now a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph located about 315 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas and moving west-northwest at 10 mph.
  • Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center predict a rapid weakening phase to begin by the end of the day as the storm tracks farther offshore.
  • Tropical storm warnings remain in effect from Punta San Telmo to Playa Perula as 75–150 mm of rain, with isolated 205 mm amounts, threaten flooding and mudslides in Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco.
  • Dangerous swells from Flossie are generating life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along the coast of southwestern Mexico and the Baja California peninsula.
  • Flossie is the third hurricane of an above-average eastern Pacific season, which NOAA projects will yield 13–19 named storms, and forecasters are monitoring other developing Pacific systems.
