Overview

  • The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that Erick struck the Oaxaca coast on June 19 with sustained winds of 205 km/h after briefly reaching Category 4 strength offshore.
  • Once inland, Erick lost intensity and was downgraded to a tropical storm while continuing to dump heavy rain across Guerrero and Oaxaca.
  • Civil protection authorities recorded at least nine landslides, widespread power outages and flooding in areas including a local hospital.
  • Authorities have reported no fatalities in Guerrero or Oaxaca so far and continue to enforce shelter orders for residents in low-lying and coastal zones.
  • Officials activated around 2,000 emergency shelters and mobilized soldiers and electricians to support cleanup and infrastructure repairs along the Pacific coast.
