Overview

  • The 2024-2025 season recorded 100 hunting accidents, reversing last season’s record low of 78 incidents.
  • For the third consecutive season, only hunters suffered fatal shootings, with 11 deaths compared to six in each of the two prior years.
  • Sixteen bystanders were injured—including three seriously—after no non-hunters were hurt in the previous season.
  • Weapon handling errors caused nearly half of the fatal accidents, and three hunters died during emergency battues.
  • Forty-four percent of active hunters have completed the ten-year refresher course introduced in 2020, with full compliance set for 2030.
