Overview
- The attack was reported around 9:27–9:30 a.m. in the Sanbakawa mountain forest of Fujioka, Gunma Prefecture.
- Victim Kishi Mitsuaki, 60, suffered serious facial, head and left‑arm injuries and was transported unconscious to a hospital in Maebashi.
- Police said his life is not believed to be in immediate danger.
- Kishi was hunting with five companions when members fired at a bear; he approached the animal, which then attacked before escaping deeper into the woods.
- No other hunters were injured, and police are monitoring the area as the bear remains at large against a backdrop of increased bear encounters this year.
