Overview

  • The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing barred members Naoise Ó Cairealláin, J. J. Ó Dochartaigh and Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh from entering Hungary for three years on national security grounds.
  • Government spokesman Zoltán Kovács said the ban was based on the group’s alleged antisemitic hate speech and praise for Hamas and Hezbollah.
  • The restriction cancels Kneecap’s scheduled Sziget Festival performance on August 11 and can be contested through a 30-day appeals process.
  • Sziget Festival organizers called the ban unnecessary and regrettable and have vowed to support legal efforts to overturn the decision.
  • Frontman Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh is due to reappear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 20 on a terrorism-related charge over an alleged Hezbollah flag display.
