- The Association of Hungarian Cinematographers confirmed on January 6 that Béla Tarr died at age 70 following a prolonged and serious illness.
- Born in Pécs in 1955 and trained at the Budapest Academy of Theatre and Film, he began at the Béla Balázs Studio and debuted as a feature director with Family Nest.
