Huáncito Keeps Carapan–Zamora Blockade, Demands Direct Budget and State Dialogue

Residents accuse Chilchota of withholding resources that state finance officials say were already justified.

Overview

  • The roadblock continues at kilometer 113+500 of the Carapan–Zamora highway with state road safety units on site and intermittent traffic reported.
  • Protesters say they escalated after a promised written response on August 25 did not arrive following a meeting with authorities on August 19.
  • Community members report the municipality received funds for January to April from the general fund and January to May from other funds, a claim disputed by the state finance secretariat.
  • The Council Supremo Indígena de Michoacán called for nearby communities to join, and organizers state the blockade will remain indefinite until a dialogue table is installed.
  • Huáncito says it began exercising the right to direct budget in May for the general fund and in June for public works and security, citing stalled local projects and a dispute with Mayor Alejandra Ortiz Suárez.
