Hun Sen Set to Win Virtually Unopposed in Cambodian Election

Campaigning has begun for Cambodia's July 23rd general election with 18 parties contesting though Prime Minister Hun Sen's ruling party is expected to win in a landslide.
The main opposition Candlelight Party was barred from running, allowing Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party to run virtually unopposed.
The election has been criticized as a sham given the lack of real opposition participation.
Hun Sen emphasized continued peace, development and democracy in Cambodia during a campaign rally though warned against attempts to disrupt the election.
Changes to election laws were made to discourage opposition and protests with the ruling party victory considered assured.
