Hun Manet Inaugurates Techo International Airport, Phnom Penh’s New $2 Billion Hub

The three-runway facility opens its first phase to expand the capital’s international air links.

Overview

  • The project sits 20–30 km south of Phnom Penh in Kandal province with initial capacity for 13 million passengers a year, rising to 30 million after 2030 and up to 50 million by 2050.
  • Operations launched with 31 airlines serving 44 direct routes, about 130 daily aircraft movements and roughly 13,500 daily passengers, following a September 9 soft opening.
  • New connectivity includes Etihad’s Abu Dhabi service launched on October 4, with Air Cambodia to Tokyo from October 26 and Turkish Airlines to Istanbul from December 10.
  • Developed by CAIC/OCIC with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and operated by VINCI Airports, the hub features retail and dining run by Lagardère Travel Retail and MRO provided by SIA Engineering Company.
  • The Foster + Partners–designed terminal blends Khmer-inspired architecture with sustainability features, including bamboo-patterned domes, a 9‑meter Buddha statue and over 200 hand‑carved sculptures, while broader phases progress toward 2030.
