  • Charlotte Motor Speedway said Wheeler died Aug. 20 of natural causes surrounded by family, a statement also shared by NASCAR.
  • Across 33 years as president and general manager (1975–2008), he built the 1.5-mile Charlotte venue into a template for big-race operations and fan amenities.
