Human Trafficking Network Dismantled in Nancy

Four individuals have been charged with smuggling hundreds of migrants from Turkey into the Schengen Area.

  • An investigation by the Metz branch of the Central Office for Combating Illegal Immigration led to the arrest of seven suspects, with four being formally charged.
  • The network is accused of facilitating the illegal entry of 300 migrants into France, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg since 2022.
  • Migrants reportedly paid between 3,500 and 7,000 euros to be smuggled from Turkey to Serbia, where they were provided with fake documents.
  • The operation involved a fleet of around 50 vehicles used to transport migrants across the Schengen borders.
  • Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has announced plans to implement stricter immigration controls, including longer detention periods and tougher conditions for regularizing undocumented migrants.
