Overview

• Human skeletal remains and a backpack belonging to missing hiker Trammell Evans were found in Joshua Tree National Park last week.
• Evans, an experienced hiker, was last seen in the park on April 30, 2023, and was reported missing on May 5, 2023.
• The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau is currently investigating the case and has not confirmed the identity of the remains nor determined the cause of death.
• Family and friends of Evans believe the remains are his and suggest he may have died from the effects of alcohol withdrawal, as indicated in his final journal entry.
• The discovery was made off a trail in the Black Rock area of the park, near where Evans was last seen.
