Human Remains Found in Joshua Tree National Park Believed to Be Missing Hiker Trammell Evans

While the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau has not confirmed the identity or cause of death, family and friends suggest Evans may have died from alcohol withdrawal.

Human skeletal remains and a backpack belonging to missing hiker Trammell Evans were found in Joshua Tree National Park last week.
Evans, an experienced hiker, was last seen in the park on April 30, 2023, and was reported missing on May 5, 2023.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau is currently investigating the case and has not confirmed the identity of the remains nor determined the cause of death.
Family and friends of Evans believe the remains are his and suggest he may have died from the effects of alcohol withdrawal, as indicated in his final journal entry.
The discovery was made off a trail in the Black Rock area of the park, near where Evans was last seen.
