Overview
- A member of the public discovered the severed limb wearing a shoe and sock at around 10:45 am on June 10 at Prestwick Beach in South Ayrshire.
- Police Scotland confirmed an investigation has been launched to establish how the leg separated from the body and ended up on the shoreline.
- Authorities have not disclosed whether the remains belong to a male or female or how long the limb spent in the water.
- A witness reported finding the leg bone partly buried under seaweed with the sock and shoe still attached.
- The case has drawn comparisons to the 1999 ‘Limbs in the Loch’ murders by William Beggs in nearby Loch Lomond.
