‘Human GPS’ Bagu Khan Killed in Gurez Counter-Infiltration Operation

An Army–police action based on J&K Police intelligence targeted a guide central to LoC crossings.

Overview

  • Troops under Operation Naushera Nar IV challenged suspicious movement near Nowshera Naar in the Gurez sector and killed two infiltrators after an exchange of fire, the Army said.
  • One of the dead was identified as Bagu Khan, also known as Samandar Chacha, who had operated since 1995 and guided more than 100 infiltration attempts across the LoC for multiple militant groups.
  • An identity card recovered by security forces indicates Khan was a resident of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with reports noting conflicting age details.
  • The second slain infiltrator has not been formally identified, and officials say he is believed to be a Pakistani national as searches and verification continue.
  • Security officials describe Khan’s elimination as a significant setback to the logistical networks that enabled repeated crossings through the GurezBandipora corridor.
