Hulu to Replace Star on Disney+ Worldwide Oct. 8 With Redesigned App

The rebrand kicks off a redesigned Disney+ focused on personalized discovery ahead of a unified HuluDisney+ app planned for 2026.

Overview

  • The Star tile will switch to Hulu across international Disney+ markets on October 8, with Australia and New Zealand following on October 9.
  • A refreshed interface makes “For You” the default home and adds top tabs for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN based on each user’s subscription, supported by updated recommendation algorithms.
  • A new Live hub highlights live news, sports, events and Disney+ 24/7 Streams, while the homepage gains video hero carousels, cinematic poster art and badges like “New Series,” “New Movie” and “Season Finale.”
  • iOS widgets will let users jump directly into titles, with Disney signaling additional mobile-first and mobile-exclusive features over the coming year.
  • Disney says existing Star programming will remain available under the Hulu label; U.S. price increases take effect October 21, and Disney is targeting 2026 for a fully unified Disney+/Hulu app as it winds down the standalone Hulu app.
