Hulu Replaces Star on Disney+ in International Markets Oct. 8 as Disney Rolls Out Major App Redesign

The shift positions Hulu as Disney’s global general‑entertainment brand ahead of a unified app planned for 2026.

Overview

  • Disney confirmed that on October 8 the Star hub on Disney+ outside the U.S. will be rebranded as Hulu, with existing Star titles remaining available under the Hulu label.
  • A redesigned Disney+ interface will debut with a new For You home tab powered by updated recommendations and a top navigation bar that surfaces Disney+, Hulu and ESPN tabs based on each user’s subscription.
  • Discovery features include a Live hub for news, sports, events and 24/7 Streams, new badges such as “Season Finale,” “New Series” and “New Movie,” more prominent profiles, a video hero carousel and cinematic poster-style artwork.
  • Disney is adding iOS widgets for one-tap access and says additional mobile-first and mobile-exclusive experiences are planned over the year ahead.
  • In the U.S., subscription prices rise on October 21, including Disney+ with ads moving to $11.99 per month and Disney+ Premium to $18.99, as integration continues toward a unified app in 2026 with the standalone Hulu app expected to persist at least through that timeframe.
