Hull Man, 19, Found Guilty of Child Destruction After Attack on Pregnant Teen

Jurors delivered a rare child destruction verdict in a nine-day Hull Crown Court trial.

Overview

  • Stefan Marin was unanimously convicted of child destruction, grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal strangulation, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice.
  • Prosecutors said he punched, kicked, strangled and scalded the 17-year-old over four hours on March 13, targeting her stomach as she tried to protect her baby.
  • A passerby found her bleeding and barely conscious at about 10.20pm; hospital scans confirmed her 29-week unborn baby had died and she had a broken nose and other trauma.
  • Police found Marin’s flat cleaned with a strong bleach smell and the victim’s clothes discarded outside, and arrested him the next day at an address on Great Thornton Street.
  • Humberside Police and the CPS condemned the violence and said the conviction is the first of its kind in the force area; the victim issued a statement and sentencing will follow.
