Hugh Bonneville Says He Is Unlikely to Return to Paddington Films

He points to the bear’s central role as the reason future installments need not include him.

Overview

  • Bonneville told Saga Magazine he does not expect to reprise Mr Brown, saying, "I’ve loved it, but I’m getting on a bit."
  • He added that other actors could step in successfully because "it’s all about the bear."
  • StudioCanal’s three Paddington films were released in 2014, 2017 and 2024 and performed well at the box office.
  • Ben Whishaw voices Paddington in the films, which build on a character first introduced in Michael Bond’s 1958 books and a 1976 BBC TV version.
  • Bonneville also said Downton Abbey’s feature The Grand Finale served as a farewell for him, though future spin-offs could proceed without his involvement.
