- A large blaze broke out at the H&M Plastics site on London Road in Beccles on Monday and quickly engulfed multiple units, sending thick black smoke over the town.
- Fire crews from across Norfolk and Suffolk deployed more than a dozen appliances to tackle the fire and an ambulance attended the scene.
- Incident Commander Rob Green said the roof collapsed and there was extensive internal and external damage, with one unit destroyed, a second about 80% damaged and a third also hit.
- The fire was reported under control by about 11pm but more than 20 firefighters remained on site the next morning to monitor hotspots and prevent rekindling.
- Suffolk Fire notified the UK Health Security Agency as a precaution, asked nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed, and said officials will continue investigations into cause and wider impacts on jobs and air quality at the Amcor-owned site.
