Overview

  • On July 20, residents and visitors joined the Hermandad de la Virgen del Carmen de Huelin for the barrio’s 19th annual maritime and terrestrial procession.
  • Devotees carried the effigy from Parroquia de San Patricio onto the fishing vessel La San Andrés before parading along Barrio de Huelin despite a strong terral wind and high heat.
  • Sculptor Enrique Salvo led the recent restoration of the Virgen del Carmen image, originally gifted by Carmina García Herrera to the parish in the 1950s.
  • The procession continues a regional cycle of land and sea rituals that spans from Semana Santa in spring to midsummer Carmen festivals across Andalusian coastal communities.
  • Huelin’s brotherhood, founded in 1992, builds on a tradition dating back to an 1875 chapel established by Eduardo Huelin Reissig’s family near Calles Garcerán and Las Navas.
