Huejutla Communities Get FAISPIAM Funds as Program Becomes Fully Operational

Constitutional reforms now enshrine an annual 12.3bn peso allocation routed through Banco del Bienestar for indigenous communities, including Afro-Mexicans, to finance their own infrastructure projects.

Overview

  • Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes led the July 27–28 distribution of FAISPIAM funds to administration committees in Huejutla, Hidalgo, marking the program’s rollout in that region.
  • Community members received Banco del Bienestar cards loaded with their share of the constitutionally guaranteed fund for direct access to resources.
  • FAISPIAM formally recognizes indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities as autonomous public-law subjects empowered to manage federal contributions.
  • Allocated resources must be used exclusively for basic social infrastructure such as potable water, sanitation, drainage, urbanization, electrification, education and health facilities, and housing improvements.
  • The Instituto Nacional de los Pueblos Indígenas and state delegations oversee coordination with local assemblies to ensure democratic project selection and federal auditing safeguards.
