Huddersfield Reopens as TransPennine Upgrade Enters Weeks of Planned Disruption Across Yorkshire

Passengers are urged to check journeys with October–November closures bringing diversions and bus replacements across West and North Yorkshire.

Overview

  • After a 30‑day closure, Huddersfield station reopened on September 29 with the first train using newly rebuilt platforms, operating on a temporary three‑platform layout until early 2027.
  • Weekday works from October 6–24 will prepare platform extensions at Batley and Dewsbury to 150m and 200m, with no trains through Dewsbury and diversions via Wakefield plus rail‑replacement buses for local stops.
  • Six consecutive weekend blocks on the Leeds–York–Selby corridor (October 4–5, 11–12, 18–19, 25–26; November 1–2, 8–9) will renew track and signalling and install foundations for overhead lines, with diversions via Castleford and bus links for intermediate stations.
  • On October 25–26 no trains will run between Doncaster or Leeds and York, Northallerton or Darlington, a reduced timetable will operate through York on November 1–2, and buses will replace trains between Wakefield or Leeds and York on November 8–9.
  • Electrification progresses with foundations for overhead line masts between Morley and Leeds, and operators advise checking timetables as extra staff, diversions and rail‑replacement services are deployed.
