Overview
- Hubig's draft, which was published Monday, July 13, 2026, raises the daily statutory rate from €75 to €100 and to €150 per day after six months in detention.
- The proposal would stop deductions for 'Kost und Logis', meaning payments could no longer be reduced to account for saved costs such as prison meals or accommodation.
- The application window for compensation would be extended from one month to two months for people whose convictions are overturned or whose pretrial cases end in dismissal or acquittal.
- The draft gives affected people the right to demand public notice of an overturned conviction, at minimum in the Bundesanzeiger, and is open for comment until August 14, 2026.
