Hubert Burda Hands Over Media Empire to Fourth Generation

Elisabeth and Jacob Burda will assume leadership of the family-owned publishing giant starting February 2025.

Hubert Burda, 84, is stepping down from his leadership roles at Hubert Burda Media, a family-owned publishing company founded in 1903.
His children, Elisabeth Burda Furtwängler (32) and Jacob Burda (34), will take on the roles of entrepreneurial and publishing leaders as of February 1, 2025.
The company remains fully family-owned, with shares distributed among Hubert Burda and his two children, who have been involved with the company as shareholders since 2010 and board members since 2017.
Hubert Burda will retain a role as personally liable partner and honorary chairman of the holding, ensuring continuity in the company’s governance.
The transition comes during a challenging period for the media industry, with the next generation emphasizing both respect for tradition and a focus on innovation and transformation.
