Overview

  • Huawei is set to begin testing its next-generation AI processor, the Ascend 910D, with initial samples expected by late May.
  • The company aims for the 910D to surpass the performance of Nvidia's H100, a leading AI chip restricted from sale in China by U.S. sanctions.
  • Chinese tech firms have been approached to evaluate the technical feasibility of the Ascend 910D as part of its development process.
  • Mass shipments of Huawei's current-generation Ascend 910C chip are planned for Chinese customers starting next month.
  • U.S. export controls on advanced Nvidia chips, including the H100 and B200, have spurred Huawei's efforts to develop competitive domestic alternatives.
