Overview

  • Huawei has launched the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, an 18-inch foldable laptop priced at 23,999 yuan (US$3,328), and the MateBook Pro, a traditional 14.2-inch laptop starting at 7,999 yuan.
  • Both laptops run HarmonyOS 5, Huawei's in-house operating system, developed as an alternative to Windows following U.S. sanctions imposed in 2019.
  • The MateBook Fold features an ultra-thin design, a 3.3K flexible OLED display, and a basalt water-drop hinge, making it one of the thinnest foldable laptops on the market.
  • Preorders for the laptops are now open in China, with shipments set to begin on June 6, although Huawei has not disclosed the chipset powering the devices.
  • HarmonyOS has grown significantly, with over a billion installations and 7.2 million developers by the end of 2024, as Huawei continues to build an integrated ecosystem across devices.
