Hryvnia Weakens to 42.99 per Dollar as NBU Sets Fourth Straight Low

Overview

• The National Bank of Ukraine set the January 9 official rate at 42.99 UAH per USD and 50.17 UAH per EUR, the fourth consecutive daily low this week.
• For January 8, the official rates were 42.71 UAH per USD and 49.92 UAH per EUR.
• Bloomberg data showed interbank trading near 43.07 UAH per USD on January 8.
• Retail pricing clustered around the new levels: banks averaged 42.50–43.10 UAH per USD and cash exchanges 43.00–43.23, with card rates at PrivatBank and monobank around 42.70–43.10.
• Since the 42.42 UAH per USD level set for January 6, the hryvnia has lost more than 1%, and the draft 2026 budget assumes an average 45.6 UAH per USD.
