HPD Probes Linked Southeast Houston Shootings; Retaliation Suspected, Juvenile Detained

HPD says the parking-lot attack stems from a prior incident at the same home.

Overview

  • Officers responded early Sept. 16 to a shooting in a parking lot on the 6500 block of Bellfort Avenue, finding a male with gunshot wounds who was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
  • While investigating that scene, police reported hearing gunfire a few blocks away and discovered a second shooting at a residence on the 6500 block of Belmark Street, where another male was wounded inside the home.
  • Investigators say there had been a shooting at the same Belmark address the previous day with no injuries, and they believe the Bellfort attack was carried out in retaliation.
  • HPD says two suspects located at the Belmark home are believed to have shot the first victim, and a friend of that victim allegedly went to the residence and exchanged gunfire with them.
  • At least one detained individual is 15 years old, and police have not confirmed any arrests or charges as the investigation continues, according to Lt. J.P. Horelica.
