Overview

  • Two Greek-flagged vessels, the Magic Seas and MV Eternity C, were struck by Houthi missiles and drones on July 6–7 and have since sunk.
  • All 22 crew members of the Magic Seas were evacuated safely before the vessel went under.
  • The MV Eternity C’s sinking accounted for at least four deaths, several injuries and US embassy claims that surviving sailors were kidnapped.
  • EU naval operation Aspides reports rescuing six sailors, confirming three fatalities, two injuries and 19 still missing as search-and-rescue continues.
  • UN envoy Hans Grundberg and US officials warn the assaults jeopardize a shipping route carrying 12% of global trade and risk further escalation.
