Overview

  • The Greek-operated, Liberian-flagged bulk carrier Eternity C came under fire from sea drones, armed speedboats and bomb-carrying drones over three days before sinking on July 10
  • Three crew members were killed and at least two wounded in the assault, while six people—five Filipinos and one Indian—have been rescued and many others remain unaccounted for
  • The ship carried 22 crew members—21 Filipinos and one Russian electrician—and a three-member security team when it was struck nearly 50 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah
  • The EU naval mission Operation Aspides and the US Embassy in Yemen blamed the Iran-aligned Houthis for intentional murder and have led multinational search and rescue operations
  • Red Sea shipping volumes have fallen by roughly half as vessels reroute around the Cape of Good Hope and the Houthis vow to keep targeting Israel-linked vessels until Gaza fighting ends
