Indian Navy Responds to Distress Call, US Forces Launch Pre-emptive Strikes on Houthi Targets

The US-owned merchant vessel MV Genco Picardy was attacked by a drone launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden.
The Indian Navy responded to the distress call and provided assistance, including an inspection of the damaged area by Indian Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists.
The attack on the MV Genco Picardy is the latest in a series of Houthi attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea and nearby region, disrupting shipping on this crucial trade route.
The Houthis claim their attacks on commercial ships are in response to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
Following the attack, US forces struck more than a dozen Houthi targets in what they said was a pre-emptive strike to protect shipping.
