Houthi Attacks on Red Sea Shipping Escalate Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict

US-led naval operation faces resistance as countries fear escalating conflict, while India vows action against attackers.

Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have escalated attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, disrupting a crucial global trade route and causing major shipping companies to reroute their vessels.
The Houthis claim these attacks are in retaliation for Israel's military actions in Gaza, and have targeted vessels they believe are bound for Israel.
The US has initiated a multinational naval operation, Operation Prosperity Guardian, to protect shipping from Houthi attacks. However, several countries, including key allies and Arab nations, are hesitant to join due to fears of escalating the Israel-Hamas conflict.
India's Defence Minister has vowed to take decisive action against those responsible for attacks on India-linked shipping vessels in the Red Sea.
The Houthi rebels have also claimed responsibility for drone attacks on the Israeli port city of Eilat.
