Houston’s I-10 Westbound Drops to Two Lanes Through Mid-2026 as Weekend Shutdown Begins

The project elevates I-10 to reduce chronic White Oak Bayou flooding.

Overview

  • TxDOT closed all I-10 westbound mainlanes between I-45 and Taylor from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to reconfigure traffic.
  • When lanes reopen, I-10 westbound will operate with two lanes from I-45 to Houston Avenue through mid-2026.
  • The I-10 eastbound connector to I-45 northbound is closed until project completion, estimated for mid-2028, and the I-45 southbound connector to I-10 westbound is closed until mid-2026.
  • TxDOT cites more than 200,000 daily vehicles on this stretch and plans later Houston Avenue bridge work with demolition in early 2027 and overall completion in 2028.
  • Separately in San Antonio, all I-10 lanes at Loop 1604 are closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for the $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.
