Overview
- Patrol officers initiated a traffic stop around 8:40 a.m. on Antoine Drive for a vehicle with an expired registration, according to HPD.
- The driver provided a license and insurance before a records check showed a felony theft warrant, Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra said.
- Officers called for backup, and the driver rolled up his window and sped away when they approached the vehicle.
- During the pursuit the suspect fired at officers from his vehicle, then crashed into a pole at Antoine Drive and West 34th Street.
- Police said the suspect ran while shooting at officers, who returned fire and struck him multiple times before he was taken to a hospital in critical condition; his identity has not been released.
