Houston Officer Shot in Road-Rage Attack; Three Detained After License-Plate Match

Investigators report the officer is stable, with the male suspect facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Overview

  • Patrol Officer Jake Parker was shot in the shoulder around 10:30 p.m. near Gessner and Hempstead while driving to his shift in a personal vehicle.
  • Parker, in uniform but not wearing a ballistic vest, drove himself to HPD’s Northwest Substation before being taken to a hospital, where he is in stable condition.
  • Preliminary accounts say a young male exited a vehicle and fired into Parker’s car, and the officer returned fire as the vehicle fled; a firearm was later recovered.
  • Hedwig Village Officer Julie Buhs recognized the suspect pickup via a license-plate match, trailed it into southwest Houston and Missouri City, and guided HPD air and ground units to detain one man and two women.
  • Police have not released the detainees’ identities and are seeking any video of the incident, while city and union leaders urged de-escalation in traffic disputes.
