The 3-day-old baby was discovered in the bottom of a garbage truck (not the one pictured), investigators said.

Overview

  • Catherine Nicole Innes, 22, was taken into custody July 21 and charged with tampering with physical evidence after deputies linked her to the discovery of a newborn’s body in a northwest Harris County trash truck.
  • Innes told investigators she delivered the baby alone in her shower three days before it was found and panicked when it showed no signs of life, placing the infant along with her nightgown and blood-stained towels in a trash bag.
  • Waste collectors recovered the infant lying face up among collected refuse after a routine pickup, and court records show the bag sat in the bin for three days before it was emptied.
  • Forensic examiners reported the baby’s skull was crushed and separated from the body, the umbilical cord detached and decomposition evident, while an autopsy ruled the cause of death undetermined.
  • Child Protective Services said Innes had no previous involvement with the agency and confirmed her older child remains in family care under CPS supervision.
