Houston Mayoral Runoff: Whitmire Leads Jackson Lee

Despite Major Endorsements, Jackson Lee Trails in Polls as Whitmire Courts Republican Support

State Senator John Whitmire and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee are the two candidates in the runoff for the Houston mayoral election, set to take place on Saturday, December 9.
Whitmire, who has been in public service for over 50 years, is leading in the polls against Jackson Lee, a 30-year veteran of Congress.
Both candidates are Democrats, but Whitmire has courted Republican support and has multiple large GOP donors backing him.
Despite major endorsements for Jackson Lee, including from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, these have not significantly moved the needle in her favor.
Whitmire has a 20-point advantage among Latino voters, who make up roughly 45% of Houston's population.
