Overview

  • The Radio Teleswitch Service signal will be phased out starting June 30, requiring RTS meter users to install smart meters or risk losing heating and hot water.
  • Energy Action Scotland reports more than 100,000 RTS meters remain active across the UK, with vulnerable and rural homes especially exposed.
  • Customers from British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus Energy say installation dates are fully booked through June and sometimes delayed into August.
  • Ofgem has demanded detailed action plans from each supplier and is reviewing contingencies for customers left on RTS meters after the shutdown.
  • Some customers, including a retired policeman citing pricing and control concerns, are refusing smart meter installations despite repeated warnings.
