House Wall Collapse in Uttarkashi Claims Four Lives

Overview

  • At about 2 am on June 20, a retaining wall collapsed in Gujjar colony of Odata revenue village in Uttarkashi’s Mori area, burying a family as they slept.
  • The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Hussain, his wife Rukma Khatoon, their three-year-old son Abid and ten-month-old daughter Salma.
  • Teams from the State Disaster Response Force and district administration reached the site about one kilometre above the main road to recover all four bodies.
  • Rescue efforts were hampered by darkness and steep mountainous terrain, according to officials on the ground.
  • A detailed administrative inquiry is under way to ascertain factors such as monsoon rains alongside building integrity, aiming to prevent similar tragedies.
