House Votes to Roll Back Biden-Era Energy Limits in Alaska and Wyoming

Lawmakers used the Congressional Review Act to fast-track disapproval of BLM restrictions affecting oil, gas, and coal leasing.

Overview

  • Members approved H.J. Res. 130 in a 214-212 vote to overturn BLM’s Buffalo Field Office plan that limited new coal leasing in parts of north-central Wyoming.
  • S.J. Res. 80 passed 216-209 to nullify the NPR-A Integrated Activity Plan and now advances to President Trump for signature after earlier Senate approval.
  • The House voted 217-209 to rescind restrictions on leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain, a measure that still requires Senate action.
  • The Buffalo plan targeted roughly 800,000 acres of surface lands and 4.7 million acres of federal mineral estate in Campbell, Johnson, and Sheridan counties.
  • Separately from Congress, the Interior Department has already rescinded the NPR-A rule and begun steps toward multiple lease sales under existing law.
