House Unveils Bipartisan Housing Bill After Dropping Senate Plan From NDAA

Overview

  • The House Financial Services Committee released the Housing for the 21st Century Act with bipartisan sponsors including Chairman French Hill, Ranking Member Maxine Waters, Rep. Mike Flood and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver.
  • House leaders moved to a standalone approach after removing the Senate-passed ROAD to Housing Act from the House’s NDAA, leaving the path to enactment to be negotiated outside the defense bill.
  • A major provision would overhaul the HOME Investment Partnerships Program to give states and cities more flexibility and to speed projects by easing certain federal environmental requirements.
