House Passes Bill to Block Use of Federal Lands for Housing Illegal Immigrants

Legislation introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis gains bipartisan support, despite opposition from the Biden administration.

House Republicans, joined by six Democrats, passed a bill to prevent President Joe Biden from using federal lands to house illegal immigrants.
The bill, known as the 'Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act', was introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis and passed with a 224-203 vote.
The legislation was introduced in response to plans to move hundreds, potentially thousands, of border crossers and illegal immigrants onto Floyd Bennett Field, a federally-owned airfield in New York.
The Biden administration opposed the legislation, claiming it would limit the powers of the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture.
Under the Biden administration, an estimated 60,000 illegal immigrants are being released into American communities every month.
